My Doctor Was Amazed

Last week, I went for a complete physical. This is always good to do, at least once a year, or before you start an exercise program, even if you are young and feel healthy.

I told my doctor that I was a runner, and she said, “Oh, you probably have runner’s knee, then.” While I lied on the bench, she checked my knees by bending them up to my chest and back. “Hmm” she said has she continued to bend my knees back and forth.

“What, is there a problem?” I asked.

“No, it’s strange, your knees make no cracking sound what-so-ever. I expected to hear cracking, since most runners that come to me are developing or have runner’s knee.”

“I can tell you’re a runner, because you have such a low heart beat. I just find it strange that you don’t have knee problems.”

So, I told her that I don’t have Runner's Knee, because I have developed strong quad muscles.

“Oh, I see you have done your homework, that’s good.” She said.

In case, you are wondering, the rest of my physical went well. No problems. My blood pressure low, heartbeat around 60, low cholesterol. Not bad for someone who is 41. It’s a good feeling to be in good physical health and not suffering from any of the aliments that a lot of runners seem to have.

Get the (Core) Power

New York City is home to world-famous NYC Marathon, but also "home" to millions of non-elite runners, too. So it's no surprise that I received the following question about "Core Strength" from someone in The Big Apple (who's a runner, if not a marathoner):

Jerry,

"I've read over and over that "core strength" will allow me to run faster with less effort. Sounds good to me! But what is Core Strength…and where can I get mine?" -- Debbie F., NYC

Debbie has a good question.

If you want to make a strong finish on the track, it's not so much about power or speed. It's about toughness. There's mental toughness, of course, a firm commitment to "sticking with it," but right now I'm talking about toughness at the CORE of your body.

The major muscle groups in the body's mid-section (its "core") are naturally designed for power and agility. They support your efforts when you're running, jumping, turning, or stopping...or engaged in a any activity that calls for quickness, strength and coordination.

These core muscles delay the onset of pain and fatigue by taking a load off your spine and leg muscles. Without the support of a strong core, your lower back and legs take a real pounding on the track. And adding insult to your injury…for a body that's "rotten to the core," recovery will be slow…torturously slow!

This is the perfect time for the phrase: Don't let this happen to you!

I can tell you from personal experience that working out with the PowerWheel will get right to the "core" of the problem. This incredible work-out "tool" gives you strength where you need it to provide power when you want it.

Strap on the PowerWheel for just 3 minutes after your daily warm up and stretch routine. Within seconds, it will expose every hidden "weak link" that is dragging you down and hurting your running speed and endurance!

I've got "the power"…and you can, too!

Remember, if you are experiencing pain, see a doctor as soon as possible.

And, if you are thinking about or have given up running because of pain or fear of injuries, give my course a try. You can order here: http://www.runningtough.com/order.html.

Are You Hungry?

Today, I'd like to ask you a question: Are you hungry…not just for food, but for information?

Well, if the number of messages in my emailbox this week is any indication -- you're not alone! There's a world of runners out there who are STARVING for facts (not fiction) about what foods and supplements they need.

Eating right to "support" your running isn't difficult…IF you always keep this key point in mind: TRUST YOUR MOTHER.

When it comes to food, you can always rely on the bounty of Mother Nature. Focus on "good eats": natural, unprocessed foods that are naturally rich in everything you want from your "fuel" -- nutrients, vitamins, antioxidants, etc.

Runners need more "fuel" than sedentary people. But for most of us, getting the full RDA of our body's nutrition through food is nearly impossible. The answer: supplements!

Finding a good supplement to augment your diet is easy. One of the most useful supplements you can take is Pharmaceutical Grade Fish Oil because it has been demonstrated to improve endurance and decrease your recovery time.

But buyer beware! The FDA doesn't regulate supplements. So although finding supplements is easy, sorting out the winners from the losers from the nearly 30,000 different supplements on the market is hard. It's also tough to know which supplement manufacturers you can rely on.

I'm happy to tell you that you CAN trust Dr. Dave's Best Pharmaceutical Grade Fish Oil because Dave Woynarowski, M.D. (aka Dr. Dave and the nation's #1 anti-aging physician) is one of the "good guys."

Dr. Dave's Pharmaceutical Grade Fish Oil is the very highest quality on the market today. Purified and free of mercury and other toxins - that are harmful to your health, this is a product you take with confidence from a "friend" you can trust.

Why not hang out a "Gone Fishin'" sign and check out Dr. Dave's product today?

What Makes a Good Runner

Have you ever wondered what makes someone a "good" runner?

Now, you know me. I'm not an elite runner. So you know that when I say a "good runner," I'm not talking about someone setting world records at the Olympics. I'm talking about an Average Joe who's a runner like me -- an "Average Jerry."

My best-selling course is all about helping an Average Joe (or an Average Joanna) go from good to better to best…but at his or her own level. My course doesn't try to turn you into a gold medalist …it teaches you how to avoid injury so that you can achieve your "personal best" as a runner.

But back to the question: what makes a good a runner?

The quick answer to the question is undoubtedly "genetics, but that isn't very meaningful unless you're one of the lucky ones born with the DNA of a champion. You can't change your genetic make-up, so there's no need to focus on what you aren't…and can never be.

Instead, let's focus on what you CAN achieve. I'd like to pose my question a different way: What are the ATTRIBUTES of a good runner?

You'll be pleased to know that these "Magic 7" attributes of good runners can be achieved by beginning joggers, running enthusiasts, "eat up the miles" marathoners…and especially Y-O-U!

• An efficient cardiovascular system
• A good power-to-weight ratio
• Strong leg muscles
• Good local muscular endurance
• Good general endurance
• Above-average flexibility
• Strong motivation to succeed

If you're feeling fired up, I'd like to "fan your flame" and invite you to order "How To Run Like a Deer, Forever"… right now. By the way…it's a risk-free offer with a money-back guarantee!

And…I've got THREE FREE GIFTS waiting to reward you for your enthusiasm and your decisiveness, so let me hear from you soon.

Remember, if you are experiencing pain, see a doctor as soon as possible.

And, if you are thinking about or have given up running because of pain or fear of injuries, give my course a try. You can order here: http://www.runningtough.com/order.html.

Listen To Your Body

If there's one thing that I always find in my mailbox, it's questions from runners about their injuries: how to avoid them, how to treat them, and how to recover from them.

Almost all the questions have to do with the physical side of injuries…the sort of thing that I talk about in detail in the "How To Run Like A Deer Forever Injury Free" course. In fact, the course was created specifically to help runners at all stages in their "race" -- tortoises, hares, and rabbits-in-training -- prepare their bodies and their minds to "go the distance" by staying injury-free.

For many people, the mental "pain" of not being able to run is worse than the physical pain of their injury. So what do they do? They rush back to their running regimen only to re-injure themselves. Instead of "coming back," they wind up on the "disabled list" for a longer period than if they would have been just a little more patient.

So please, when you're injured, listen to your body…not your mind! Don't rush the recovery process. Even if you're the ultimate "Comeback Kid," it's going to take some time to engineer that comeback.

And, if you must, eliminate running entirely from your exercise program until your injury is 100% healed. Think of your down time as an opportunity, not a punishment.

Think of your injury as a great reason to take a well-earned vacation…to explore alternative forms of exercise.

Hey, how about this? While you're off your feet, you can fine-tune your running strategies with "How To Run Like a Deer Forever!" It can be a great workout when recovering from minor injuries and will keep you in shape while you are recovering.

Run smarter and you'll run longer.

Remember, if you are experiencing pain, see a doctor as soon as possible.

And, if you are thinking about or have given up running because of pain or fear of injuries, give my course a try. You can order here: http://www.runningtough.com/order.html.
