Overuse Injuries

It seems that the most common type of injury that runners suffer from is an overuse injury as opposed to some kind of impact injury.

What is an overuse injury? It is basically the overuse of a muscle, joint, or connective tissue (ligament, tendon, etc.).

The body part that is being overused will fatigued faster and will break down during
repetitive use. The pain and discomfort may come on slowly over time, or one day
something may just snap.

Your body works by giving it an overdose of work, like running. Your body is then
broken down, and it starts to repair itself so it can handle that work again. If you
train correctly, you can keep increasing the work load.

If you work out/run too much, too fast, too soon you will probably get an overuse
injury.

There are two ways to prevent these.

1) Cut back on your running. This is kind of hard for most of us runners. We like to
go out and run, no matter what. If you keep experiencing pain in the same area of
your body you need to cut back your running soon, before you get an actual injury. I can't
stress this enough.

2) You can train your body to withstand an increased load on it. That is what my
course, now called, "How to Run Like a Deer, Injury Free, Forever" is about.

It might sound odd that you need to exercise for running, but it is a good thing to
do. And, very few people teach this. In fact, I am the only one that I know of that
does. Think how other athletes train for their sports. For instance, football players lift weights to make themselves stronger and bigger.

I don't believe you should run everyday. And, most other trainers believe that
also. In fact, it is recommended that runners do some kind of cross training. My course
